The situation

The customer uses Shoplogix Digital Andon to make production issues visible – on boards, screens and via email. The challenge: visibility is not the same as reachability. Outside core hours, on the night shift and out on the floor, no one is always at the board, so critical alerts could be noticed late – directly affecting mean time to repair (MTTR) and thus downtime and availability.

02

The requirement

  • reach the responsible person – by department (e.g. maintenance, quality),
  • without assuming an attentive viewer at the board,
  • without changing the existing Andon processes in Shoplogix,
  • no alerts left unhandled (escalation) and no call storms (duplicate-call protection).
03

The solution: Andon Call

Andon Call reads new Andon alerts from Shoplogix and turns them into an automated voice call to the responsible number. Routing by department with a fallback default recipient ensures delivery; the person acknowledges by keypad, which makes the start of the reaction documentable. If unanswered, the call escalates to the next recipient. Duplicate-call protection via idempotency and state tracking prevents multiple triggers.

The complementary character is decisive: the Andon system stays unchanged – Andon Call only delivers the additional, active channel that boards and emails do not cover.

“Visibility is not reachability. The call closes the last mile between alert and person.”
04

Implementation

The connection to the existing Shoplogix installation required no rebuild of the Andon workflows; the department-based routing was configured together with the customer. The solution was verified end to end: a real Andon alert triggered the call to the responsible employee, who answered and acknowledged by keypad – the reaction happened within seconds. It operates around the clock, including night and fringe shifts.

05

The result

Critical Andon alerts now reach the responsible people actively by phone – regardless of whether anyone is looking at the board. The solution is in series operation; the full lifecycle of alert, call and acknowledgement runs reliably. This establishes the basis to measurably reduce reaction time outside core hours – and, in turn, MTTR.
